maternity photography

Photo taken at Corgan Ville in Simi Valley,CA

I have a confession: I kick myself for not taking professional maternity or new born photos of me and my kids. ugh, you have no idea how much I regret not doing it. I will never get those days back. And now I create these beautiful images for families to have forever.

Right now, I’m editing a session I did for a friend and I was thinking to myself gawd I’m giving them beautiful photos and I have nothing but a picture on my cell phone. And don’t get me wrong there’s a time and place for cell phone photos. But not for special life moments. Not to mention you can’t hang a cell phone photo on your wall. And once you get to understand photography, my camera’s got nothing on a cell phone. I almost hate my cell phone now.

A lot of times we don’t want maternity photos done or any type of photo for that matter because most often I hear “I feel fat”. Little did I know that there’s these beautiful dresses that you can wear for your maternity session that I think would make anyone feel absolutly beautiful. Get your hair and make up done, buy or rent that beautiful dress. You are beautiful and you will never get tomorrow back.

And once you get your photos taken professionally, HANG THEM UP ON YOUR WALLS!!!! ย Don’t leave them on your computer just taking up space, waiting for your hard drive to fail and you lose all your memories. Or through that disk in your drawer to have it damaged and no good. Print that picture! Hand it down to your family as you get older. When you use my professional printer, their canvases last. If you buy a cheap one like my mom did long ago, it won’t last. I don’t know if she still has my senior picture because the canvas got all cracked, like hard mud dried. But if she does I promise to share it one day because it’s only about 12 years old.

Snorkeling in Shark Ray Alley in Belize

Yes I did actually get in the water with these sharks!!!

My husband and I love to travel, but when we had kids we had to put traveling on the back burner for a few years. First it’s expensive, but it’s also hard to leave the kids when they are so young. I’m lucky enough to have family that can watch them….

Right now I have the Southwest Companion pass which means my husband flies free with me through the end of the year. So needless to say we have a few trips to get in this year, but for now we just knocked Belize off our list.

I actually ended up liking Belize more after the trip than before. We stayed in Belize city, took the ferry to Caye Caulker where we did a snorkeling trip and hung out at the split. Then we drove to the Mayan ruins and took a drive through the country side to see how the locals lived. After that we we took the ferry to San Pedro where we decided to stay the night and take the ferry back in the morning.

One of the most exciting parts of the trip was snorkeling in Shark/Sting ray alley. Before the trip I said NO WAY am I going in there………and then there I was in the water touching these creatures (I was scared since I have been stung by a stingray!) I would have never known that nursing sharks skin feels like sandpaper!

Besides the physical activities and adventures we went on nothing beats having that alone time with your significant other. Because we all know once we have kids we become so busy and focused on the kids. It was nice to be in clear waveless water relaxing, having some drinks and best of all not having a schedule. No nap time, unless i wanted one ( haha) and being able to actually have a conversation and hold each other .

Living in Arizona as a newborn photographer, maternity and family photographer, this was a good break for me. I did chose not to bring my camera as I wanted to relax and not worry about looking through my lens, but there was defiantly times I wish I had brought it.
